Te Hoe o Tainui marae representative Tukoroirangi Morgan has been re-elected as Chair of Te Arataura, the executive branch of Waikato-Tainui, marking his third term in the position.
Morgan noted that the iwi is navigating a period shaped by challenges as it works toward achieving the goals outlined in its long-term strategy, Whakatupuranga 2050.
“This will be my final term in the executive, and I want to lead a team that welcomes diversity of thought that places our people in the front and centre of everything that we do,” says Tuku.
“We welcome five new members to this executive and they bring an exciting arsenal of new skills and expectations to the table which will enhance the current direction of travel.”
Parekawhia McLean (Te Papa o Rotu marae) will serve as Deputy Chair on the executive board. McLean previously led Te Whakakitenga o Waikato, the tribal parliament, and is now serving her second term as an executive member of Te Arataura.
McLean expressed her intention to support Te Arataura in resetting the long-term strategic direction of the iwi’s tribal entities.
“Like Tuku I’m excited to be part of an executive that is both passionate and dedicated to delivering tangible outcomes that will make a difference to our marae and people,” says Parekawhia.
