Te Matatini Society Incorporated National Board approved the change to the competition rules following a board meeting held on Friday 30 April 2021 in Tāmaki Makaurau. The rule change is a one-off and applies only to Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata National Kapa Haka Festival 2022 to be held at Eden Park in Tāmaki Makaurau.
