A homicide investigation is underway following the traumatic deaths of a woman and two young children at a property in Glenholme, Rotorua, Monday evening.
Emergency services arrived at the High Street address shortly before 10:30 PM to find a scene described by authorities as “extremely confronting.” A woman was discovered with life-threatening injuries alongside two young children who were already deceased. Despite the extensive efforts of police and ambulance crews, the woman passed away at the scene.
Bay of Plenty Acting District Commander Inspector Logan Marsh says the focus is now on supporting the affected whānau and the first responders who attended the incident.
“This was an incredibly traumatic incident for all those involved,” Inspector Marsh says. “We know this event will be felt widely in the community and people will want answers. We are methodically working through the scene, including a detailed forensic examination.”
A man located at the address is currently assisting police with their enquiries. At this stage, police have confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the deaths.
A visible police presence remains in the Glenholme area, with scene guards in place and additional reassurance patrols scheduled for the coming days and nights to support a community understandably shaken by the news.
Inspector Marsh has urged the public to refrain from speculation out of respect for the victims and their grieving family.
“The investigation team will work for as long as it takes to understand what happened and why,” he says.
